The Synopsis

On their way to Gibraltar, The Minerva is ambushed by the pilots of the Girty Lue, who were stationed at a nearby base the Minerva didn't know about. Neo orders the windams from Gibraltar to participate in the attack. Stellar, whose gundam is land-based, is unable to fight in this battle.
Shinn and the others launch under the command of Athrun. They manage to protect the Minerva. Towards the end of the battle, Shinn sees the Indian Ocean Earth Alliance military base, and stops to free the villagers trapped in the concentration camps. He refuses to listen to Athrun's orders to stop, and annihilates the Earth Alliance base. The village families are reunited, and they cheer Shinn for helping them.
When the pilots return to the Minerva, Athrun strikes Shinn in the face. He tells Shinn that war isn't about playing pretend hero, and that he didn't know how to utilize his strength properly. When Shinn protests and says that his actions had saved those people, Athrun strikes him again as the crew of the Minerva watch in surprised silence.

The Review

Athrun becomes a figure of leadership for the aces stationed with the Minerva, although nobody really seems to understand what is going on inside his head. Athrun scolds Shinn for abusing his power, and for being impulsive and willful in front of the entire crew - how embarrassing @.@;. Perhaps one reason for Athrun's presence is so that he can act as a teacher of who the true enemy is - something which Athrun himself is trying to figure out.
