The Synopsis
1. Trust and Betrayal Trust and Betrayal can come in a set of two (Trust, and Betrayal), or as one single DVD (Trust & Betrayal). The version I got was the single--cheaper and more convenient. These two movies tell of Kenshin's past, whereas the TV series tells of his present and future ten years after he quit the role of Assassin. Kenshin is portrayed as the legendary Hitokiri Battousai--a deeply feared assassin during the days of the Revolution. We see glimpses of his training in the legendary swordsmanship of Hiten Mitsurugi, of his master, and a good idea of the type of formidable, forbidding character he became famous for.2. The Motion Picture This was basically like an extended version of a typical TV Series episode. This time, Kenshin teams up with Japanese Meiji Era police officers whose job it is to put down some rebels who had fought in the Revolution. These rebels are ex-samurai, who feel that their hard work to restore Japan and to bring about the new era has been for nothing--that they have been abused by people who cannot even hold a sword, let alone defend anything with it.3. Reflection Reflection tells the story of what happens after the TV series of Rurouni Kenshin. In other words, when Kenshin is an old man. If you haven't seen anything before this, I suggest you wait until you do before reading this, because there are a few spoilers here and there. Kenshin has married Kaoru and they have a son named Kenji. Kenshin, rather than staying at home, travels for long periods of time after his marriage to "reflect" on his past. Meanwhile, Kaoru stays at home and in bed, pining for her husband, and Kenji goes off to try his hand at training in Hiten Mitsurugi swordsmanship style with Kenshin's old master, Seijiro Hiko.
